On June 15, 2024, members of the Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNPS) were investigating a domestic assault that led to a search warrant and further charges for drugs and weapons possession on Lake Road in Sandy Bay First Nation, Manitoba.
Members of the Manitoba First Nation Police Service received a call from a female reporting that she was assaulted. While Police were investigating the assault, Police obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. Police searched a residence on Lake Road and seized 13 firearms, numerous types of ammunition, drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, approximately 35.1 pounds of Cannabis, 6.2 grams of suspected cocaine and close to $24,000.00.
A 63-year-old male from Sandy Bay was charged with the following offences:
· Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling
· Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution
· Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
· Assault
· Uttering Threats
· Careless Storage of a Firearm X 9
The accused cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim of the domestic assault.
