We welcome the interest of First Nations communities that are looking to a community-based policing solution.
But how exactly, does a community become a partner with our service?
If you are looking for a better service, one built on community-policing, the request must come first from your community. In essence, your community is the catalyst, and the one that needs to initiate the conversation.
More specifically, exploring the option of transitioning to Manitoba First Nations Police Services, begins with the following steps:
A typical BCR states:
“Whereas: (First Nation Community) Chief and Council wishes to terminate our existing service with the (named service provider) and wish to seek a long term policing agreement with Manitoba First Nations Police Service.
Therefore Be It Resolved: the (First Nation applicant) Chief and Council submit their application under the Manitoba First Nations Police Service Agreement to be accepted as a participating community (as such term defined within) which has been entered into by the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council, her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of Public Safety and Attorney General.”
If you think the Manitoba First Nations Police Service would be a fit in your community, please reach out to:
Office of the Chief of Police to start the discussion!
